As quoted by The Express, Southampton midfielder Steven Davis has said that the club will be able to deal with the potential loss of Jose Fonte with our Saints in the Transfer Tavern increasingly concerned.
Rumours about the Portuguese defender’s future have geared up a notch recently with the Saints continuing to impress under their latest manager Claude Puel who came in during another summer of upheaval.
The south coast club saw manager Ronald Koeman move to Everton whilst Sadio Mane went to Liverpool as the Reds took another player from St. Mary’s.
The winger followed the likes of Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne in making that particular switch and for Davis the fact the club have always bounced back is only a good sign.
Indeed, the midfielder is of the opinion that if Fonte did leave, the club would be just fine without him. He said:
“We are well used to it [players leaving] by now. In my time here we have sold a lot of players, a lot of big players, and it shows we are doing things the right way [in terms of results.]”
The Saints have seen the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Charlie Austin and Nathan Redmond all come to the fore this season whilst there’s also a significant stream of youngsters coming through.
The likes of Josh Sims, James Ward-Prowse and Sam McQueen have all featured this season and our landlord thinks that the future of the club is in more than safe hands right now.
