Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has called on the Saints fans to help create an atmosphere to see their side beat Inter Milan on Thursday night, as quoted by Sky Sports.
The Saints fans here in the Transfer Tavern are certainly going to create some noise here by the bar come kick-off so St. Mary’s should be rocking as the Serie A side roll into town.
Inter are struggling this season in Italy and are in the bottom half of the table but for Hojbjerg, a summer signing from Bayern Munich, feels the fans will still be vital as the Saints go about trying to beat them.
He said: “If we win this game I think it looks very good ahead of the knockout stages. If we lose the game, we suddenly can be one step behind, and with only two games left then there is a lot to catch and that can be difficult. So it’s really important to get a good start to the game, to get a good feeling and atmosphere. The fans have to be there, and I really look forward to it.”
The midfielder also revealed how impressed he was by the club’s away support at the San Siro last month:
“I must say, I have been at some clubs and I think I have never experienced something like that, and to be that loud doesn’t happen a lot. The players can feel it, and the players will try to put all their energy into the game and we will maybe make history and go through to the knockout stages.”
Southampton lost to Inter in the reverse fixture 1-0 but know a win tonight would put their fate in their own hands as they try to reach the knockout stages.
Our landlord thinks the Saints have the ability to beat the Italian side on Thursday night, and think if the St Mary’s crowd get behind them, it could be a comfortable win for the south coast side.
