The Southampton fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing the club’s potential move for a new striker this summer.
According to reports in The Sun, Southampton have entered the race to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino this summer.
The Saints are thought to be in the market for a new striker following the sale of Sadio Mane to Liverpool for £34m earlier today.
Such reports will serve as a bitter blow for Stoke City who were said to have made a £16m offer for the prolific front man.
Those on the South Coast are expected to trounce The Potters’ bid, using a significant chunk of the money raised from the sale of Mane.
One thing that will be in favour for the club is the fact they will be playing in the Europa League next season, and this could tempt the want away Baggies striker to make the move south.
His current club will not be concerned by the fact that Southampton are interested and will be looking to use it to their advantage as it will no doubt put the fee the club receive higher than if they were dealing with a sole bidder.
Would Berahino, considering his personal issues, really be a good fit at Southampton?
