Southampton’s defence would see massive improvement if they sign £8.1m-rated ace

The Southampton fans in and around the Transfer Tavern are hopeful that their club learn from previous mistakes and invest heavily during this transfer market after only scraping towards safety last time out.

In what was a very disappointing season for Southampton, they have now been given a lifeline in the Premier League to rebuild and return to the top 10 club they once were. The loss of Virgil Van Dijk almost proved costly for the Saints, so our punters believe one of their top priorities this summer should be acquiring a centre-back who can fill the Dutchman’s void. A player suggested is Lazio’s Wallace, who is valued at £8.1 million by Transfer Markt.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a good breakthrough at Lazio in the 2016/17 season, where he made 30 appearances. Many believed that would happen again but after struggling with injuries this campaign, he was limited to only 17 appearances. That said, when he did play he looked very good – impressing with the solid nature of his defending and his calm, composed stature on the ball.

Southampton are in need of a reliable replacement for Virgil Van Dijk and on his day, Wallace could well be an inspired choice to replace the now Liverpool man. If it wasn’t for their last line of defence, Alex McCarthy in goal, it could certainly be argued that theye would not be in the Premier League today and their defence has to take the blame for that due to their inconsistency.

Southampton need a top defender and Wallace needs proper game-time, it’s the match made in heaven right? At 23-years-old, the Brazilian has still got a few years to reach his prime levels where the Saints could massively prosper with him supplying strength and stability to the backline.
