Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been waxing lyrical about their 22-year-old Dane, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after the central midfielder starred as Southampton waltzed into the FA Cup semi-finals. Hojbjerg was the Man of the Match at the DW Stadium as the Saints overcame an impressive side Wigan 2-0.

The ex-Bayern Munich man opened the scoring in the game as he smashed the ball home from a corner, sparking wild celebrations among the players. Just a week previous to the game, Hojbjerg had been apart of an awful Southampton team that had fallen to a 3-0 defeat at Newcastle without any form of reply. However, you could see what the Dane’s first ever Saints goal meant to him as helped to fire Southampton into the last four of the FA Cup.
The game was Mark Hughes first in charge of the South Coast club, after being sacked by Stoke following a loss to Coventry in the same competition back in January. Whilst the Saints fans propping our bar up now have a semi-final against Chelsea to look forward to, the priority for those associated with the club will be Premier League survival. The St Mary’s faithful are currently in the drop zone and two points off of safety, although with eight league games remaining and a first win under Mark Hughes’ belt, the fans will be confident they can keep their top-flight status intact.
