This article forms part of our Valuation Evaluation feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at the increase or decrease of a player’s Transfermarkt valuation and whether it is justified or not.
The 2019/20 season has been quite the campaign for Danny Ings at Southampton.
Based on that, it is only fair that his market valuation has gone up. According to Transfermarkt, Ings is now worth £19.8m having been valued at £13.5m after the end of last season.
Some Southampton fans may feel that their centre-forward is worth much more than that, which would also be fair given his importance to the side. Meanwhile, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Ings is good enough to play for a club like Tottenham.
Speaking on Gillette Soccer Special back in January when the transfer window was open, the ex-Arsenal player said (via Football.London): “If I was Tottenham I’d be going for Ings in this window. He suits and plays the Tottenham way. He has a great brain, he is clever, he comes off people.
How much is Danny Ings worth?
£20m or more
Less than £20m
“He is a proper footballer. Everything he did today [against Spurs on New Year’s Day] was proper. His goal was outstanding. A bit like Paul Gascoigne against Scotland,” Merson later added.
For now, though, the England international remains a Southampton player, whose stock is steadily on the rise, and a vastly important asset to manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Southampton fans, how much do you think Ings is worth in today’s market? Let us know in the comment section below!
