Welcome boost for Hughes with key Southampton man back in contention

Southampton fans here in the Tavern are desperate for their side to secure all three points later today, as they remain on course for relegation to the Championship.

Mark Hughes will have been delighted with his side’s display in the FA Cup against Wigan Athletic, but they failed to carry any momentum through to their Premier League fixture against West Ham United as they were beaten 3-0.

Indeed, the Saints have been without one of their key first-team members for the past month or so, as Steven Davis has been nursing a hamstring problem that’s kept him out since February. However, fitness expert Ben Dinnery revealed some positive news for Southampton fans on Twitter.

According to Dinnery, Davis is back in contention for Southampton as they travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal tomorrow.

This is great news for Mark Hughes at a crucial point in their campaign, as they’ll be looking to secure points in all of their remaining fixtures. Indeed, Steven Davis is one of the senior members in the squad and has come to the rescue on multiple occasions, as he could just be the man that saves the Saints’ season. And, this could reap huge psychological rewards for the club and supporters from here on in until the end of the season, as the first-team players will feel more confident with one of the club’s most respected figures back on the pitch.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Southampton will be delighted that the midfielder is back in contention after spending the past month or so out on the sidelines, as his experience and quality in the middle of the park will work wonders for the Saints. Although, many of our local residents are still not sure on whether he’ll feature at the weekend, as the club shouldn’t look to rush him back into the starting XI.
