Southampton pull the plug on Marlon Santos deal

Southampton have been busy making a number of changes this summer to their squad as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season.

Mark Hughes will want to ensure his side perform better than last year’s campaign, where the Welshman managed to guide them to safety with just one game to spare.

The former Stoke City manager has brought in a number of additions to help improve their chances of performing to a better standard, with the likes of Angus Gunn, Jannik Vestergaard, Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi all arriving this summer.

However, it appears that the arrival of Vestergaard has meant that the Saints have decided to pull the plug on one possible transfer target.

According to a report by El Mundo Deportivo, Southampton are no longer interested in bringing Marlon Santos from Barcelona to the St. Mary’s Stadium.

The Spanish outlet have stated that a deal had appeared to be done a couple of days ago, however, with the arrival of the Denmark international, it looks unlikely that the Brazilian will join them.

The Verdict:

Southampton have been making a number of smart signings this summer and with the addition of Vestergaard, they will feel they do not need another centre-back to be added to their squad.

Marlon had been an outstanding performer for Nice in Ligue One last season and attracted plenty of interest, however, it now appears that the Saints are no longer ready to make a deal for the Barcelona man.
