Southampton receive boost for transfer target as club cool their interest

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern will have been delighted with the movements that Mark Hughes has been making the past couple of days in regards to his recruitment drive.

The Saints will lose Dusan Tadic at the end of the month to Ajax, with the locals slightly disappointed to see the Serbia international go, however, the former Stoke City boss has been acting fast to bring in new recruits.

The club announced the signing of Stuart Armstrong earlier this week, whilst reports are suggesting that a deal for Basel’s Mohamed Elyounoussi could be on the cards, as well as a possible switch for Manchester City’s Angus Gunn.

The Saints could also be about to receive a boost in their efforts for Huddersfield Town’s Aaron Mooy, as the Premier League champions have decided against exercising their buy-back clause for the Australia international, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News.

It is thought the midfielder is the subject of a £18million bid from the Southampton and Everton following his impressive displays in the World Cup and the Premier League.

Landlord’s Verdict

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern would be delighted to see a player of Mooy’s quality arrive at St. Mary’s Stadium next summer as they would then have a new look midfield with Armstrong also in the middle.

The decision made by City to not go back for him could make it all that easier for the Saints to bring him to the south-coast, however, the locals in the bar will know that the Terriers will not be prepared to let him go without a fight.
