Southampton will need to be active in the transfer market this winter if they are to try and keep their place in the Premier League.
The pressure is thought to be mounting on Mark Hughes already, with the next result against Watford thought to be crucial.
The Saints have largely been poor and disappointing this season so far, with a number of their players failing to make a real impact.
It is no secret that Southampton have an interest in Portuguese football, having been spotted watching a vast number of matches, however, there are suggestions that they could have one man in mind.
Shoya Nakajima is thought to have been attracting plenty of interest from clubs around Europe, and although it is not known who the Saints were watching, there is no reason to suggest the Japan international forward is not on their radar.
Nakajima could be a likely transfer target for the club in January as Southampton have been spotted watching Portimonense on a couple of occasions already this season.
The Saints have struggled to score goals this season, with Danny Ings being the only one to have had any success recently, so a centre-forward could be on their agenda.
As mentioned previously, it remains to be seen if a striker is wanted, or if the Premier League side are keeping tabs on another player.
