Southampton set to bring ideal Virgil van Djik replacement to St. Mary’s this summer

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been enjoying the last couple of days in regards to transfer news and it appears things could get better in the near future.

Mark Hughes has been desperate to add to his Saints squad this summer as he looks to ensure the side do not face a repeat of last year’s disappointing campaign.

The former Stoke City boss managed to guide them to Premier League safety with just one fixture left and is keen to make the additions required to make his team as strong as possible.

Despite losing Dusan Tadic to Ajax, he has already added Stuart Armstrong from Celtic and Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel this summer, however, according to a report in the Daily Mirror, he could be about to make his third acquisition inside a week.

The media outlet are claiming that the Saints could be about to bring Barcelona’s Marlon to the St. Mary’s Stadium after agreeing to a £10million fee for the defender.

The centre-back, who spent last season on loan at Nice, is thought to be an ideal replacement for Virgil van Djik after they lost the Dutchman to Liverpool last January.

Landlord’s Verdict

Southampton fans in the Tavern will be pleased that the club are continuing their recruitment drive this summer and will be delighted with the capture of Marlon should they get him. The defender has shown that he is more than capable of playing at the top-level and if the Saints see him as an ideal replacement for Van Djik, then the locals will be happy to see him at St. Mary’s this summer.
