Southampton set to miss out on Paco Alcacer

Southampton are thought to be in the transfer market for a striker this summer, however, it appears that one man they had been targeting may not be available after all.

Mark Hughes is desperate to improve his side’s fortunes heading into the upcoming Premier League campaign after he managed to keep them in the top-flight by the skin of their teeth.

He has already made a number of changes to his squad with the additions of Angus Gunn, Jannik Vestergaard, Stuart Armstrong and Mohammed Elyounoussi, however, it does not appear one man that he has been targeting will join them.

According to a report by Sport in Spain, Paco Alcacer will not be leaving Barcelona this summer, following the Catalan outfit’s failed attempt to lure Antonie Greizmann to the Camp Nou.

The Saints have been interested in the former Valencia striker for some time, however, it appears he will continue to fight for a place with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez instead.

The Verdict:

Southampton will be disappointed to miss out on potentially bringing the 24-year-old to the St. Mary’s Stadium this summer and will need to turn their attention elsewhere.

The striker has had limited opportunities to make a name for himself at the Camp Nou and they would have been hoping he would have been made available this summer.

However, it appears he will be spending more time warming up the bench in Catalonia, rather than trying to make an impact in the Premier League.
