Southampton receive improved offer for Matt Targett

Southampton will be keen to keep their best players at the club this summer as they look to improve on last season’s campaign.

The Saints were disappointing last year and finished just outside of the relegation zone and Mark Hughes will be desperate to make sure a repeat does not happen.

One player that they may want to keep at the St. Mary’s Stadium is Matt Targett following his impressive loan spell with Fulham, however, it may prove difficult as the London outfit have made an improved offer for him.

According to a report by Football Insider, Fulham have made a £14million offer for the defender as they look to bring him back to Craven Cottage on a permanent deal.

The left-back was an influential figure for the Cottagers last season in their promotion-winning campaign last season and the Saints would have been encouraged by what they had seen from the 22-year-old.

The Verdict:

Southampton would not have been disappointed if the player remained on the south coast, however, an offer of £14m may be too good for them to turn down.

The club are thought to be reluctant on letting Targett go after being impressed with his performances and is definitely a player with a bright future.

However, the Saints could be prepared to offload him as they look to use the money to bring in other additions to help them improve in the Premier League.
