Southampton manager Mark Hughes will be hoping to lead his team to a marked improvement next season after narrowly steering the Saints to safety last term.

The south coast outfit struggled for goals and clean sheets throughout the season, and some big moves in the transfer market are going to be needed in the coming weeks to improve on things, especially following the sale of star creative force Dusan Tadic.

While plenty in the Premier League spend big, the Saints have become something of  a selling club over the last few years, losing a plethora of top talent, mainly to Liverpool, who have stolen the likes of Adam Lallana, Virgil van Dijk, and Sadio Mane to name but three.

However, we at the Transfer Tavern think there are players out there for the Saints to buy, and one man we think would be a superb addition is Marseille creative midfielder Dimitri Payet.

The former West Ham man, now valued at £19.8m, was a sensation for the Hammers in the opening six months of his spell in London, and was all set up to make a move to one of the giants of Europe before some attitude and off field problems stemmed his progress.

Payet was in electric form for Marseille last season however, living up to his creative nature with a mammoth 14 assists, while also chipping in with six goals for the French club.

A forgotten man somewhat in the Premier League, Payet would be a superb replacement for the departed Tadic and would provide the bit of magic teams so often miss in the top flight.

Southampton fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
