Southampton sign Alexandre Jankewitz

Southampton look to have beaten off competition from a number of Premier League clubs to the signing of a talented teenager.

According to a report by Tuttomercatoweb, the Saints have signed Alexandre Jankewitz from Servette in a deal thought to be around €1.5million.

Mark Hughes’ side are also thought to have beaten a host of competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs to land the 16-year-old, with the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus all interested in the youngster.

The midfielder, who has already been capped by Switzerland at youth levels, can play in a range of different roles, from being deployed in a defensive area to pushing up the field and playing as an attacking option.

The Verdict:

The club have already brought in a number of players this summer to help bolster their squad, and now they will be able to add the Swiss teenager to their ranks.

Jankewitz obviously has a huge amount of potential following the interest from a number of clubs that play in the Champions League and should he become the player people feel he will be, Southampton could have pulled off a major deal.

He will not be expected to play a role in the first-team but there will be a number of keen eyes watching over him to see how he develops.
