Southampton supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have so far enjoyed the summer transfer window as the south coast club flex their financial muscle in the transfer market with the impressive capture of Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama among the highlights.
However Mirror Football have brought them back down to earth by reporting that Serie A giants Inter Milan are trying to sign Saints midfield star Gaston Ramirez in a £13 million move.
The 22-year-old joined the Saints in a club record deal of £12 million just last summer from Bologna despite reported interest from Manchester United and Liverpool for the highly-rated Uruguay international midfielder.
He netted five times in his 26 games at St. Mary’s last season as he struggled to fulfil his expected potential and he has been linked with a move away after his agent recently claimed that both Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are interested in his services.
However Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino made clear last month that Ramirez was not for sale at any price, telling Mail Online: “He’s happy with us and we are counting on him for next season.
“It’s normal that a lot of clubs are interested in his quality, but we don’t listen to transfer rumours. We are planning for next season with him on board.”
But worryingly the playmaker has yet to return for pre-season training after being granted extra time due to his participation in the Confederations Cup.
