Our resident Southampton supporters were left disappointed at the weekend after a 1-1 draw with relegation-battling Sunderland and they have now been intrigued by a report in Gazette Live, which claims that Gaston Ramirez could leave on a permanent basis in the summer.
The Uruguayan is currently on-loan at Championship outfit Middlesbrough but he has revealed that he will consider a permanent move to the Riverside Stadium if he achieves promotion with Boro.
The playmaker is out of contract in the summer and has produced a string of good performances in recent games, including a great display against Wolves last week in which he grabbed both goals in a 2-1 win.
Ramirez cost Southampton around £12 million back when they signed him from Bologna back in 2012. However, he has now admitted that he is open to a summer departure from the Premier League club.
“If Boro get promoted would I talk about staying? Why not? At the moment I am only thinking about this team and winning the Championship and going up. But after that…”
“I feel I am good enough to play in the Premier League. I am fighting for that. I want to show that I can play at the top level. I want to show good I am. That is my ambition.”
Having fallen out of favour with the Saints, our landlord believes that the 25-year old has the ability to succeed once again in the top flight.
When Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka was asked if he would like to sign Ramirez, he said:
“For me, tomorrow! But first we need to know where we are next season and if he wants to stay here.”
