The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to get seriously concerned about their side’s defensive issues…
With reports suggesting that defender Virgil van Dijk looks set for a long-term spell on the sidelines, alongside the recent sale of Jose Fonte to West Ham, a defensive line that has so often been impenetrable is now on the verge of collapse.
For Claude Puel, both of his oftentimes first-choice central defenders are no longer available, and whilst the likes of Maya Yoshida have impressed over the last week or so, Puel certainly needs to add a bit more depth if he wants to succeed long-term.
The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern were relieved, then, to hear reports from the Daily Mail that are suggesting that the Saints are chasing a temporary loan deal for Spartak Moscow defender Serdar Tasci.
A nomadic defender, Tasci has featured for several clubs in recent years, with the likes of German sides Bayern Munich and Stuttgart and current team Spartak Moscow all making use of the defender’s services.
A strong passer of the ball, Tasci is a solid defender that also likes to get the ball forward when he can – which would suit Southampton’s style of play.
Tasci has made 7 starts in the Russian Premier League so far this season.
Take a look at what he can do below…
Our landlord thinks that a loan deal makes sense, as Claude Puel doesn’t have enough time left in the window to ensure that he has the right player for the long-term.
