Southampton fans here in the Tavern are speculating whether the club’s desire to extend Ronald Koeman’s contract by another five years is actually long enough.
Saints chiefs are preparing to offer the Dutchman a new five-year deal which they hope will persuade him to stay and build something really special at St. Mary’s, according to The Daily Mirror.
Koeman has done a fabulous rebuilding job during his nearly two years on the south coast and Saints fans here idolise him due to that.
He arrived at a time when boss Pochettino had left for Spurs and star players such as Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Calum Chambers and Nathaniel Clyne had been sold.
During that period, Saints fans were extremely despondent but since there has been many positives for them to shout about, from the quality of his signings to the performances on the field.
After a seventh place finish last season, they are on course to maybe even better this term and with seven league games remaining there is an excellent chance they could find themselves playing in Europe next season.
Such achievements have seen Koeman linked with bigger name clubs but the Saints are determined to keep their boss to build for much better times ahead, and the fans in here will most certainly drink to that.
