Southampton’s clash with Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday is surely the definition of a ‘six-pointer’. With both sides down towards the drop, it is more important than ever for the Saints to come away with a win if they are to have any chance of survival.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s has seen his team improve considerably over the last month or so, however, things could be about to get even better for his side as he has some great news emerge ahead of the trip.
What’s the News?
According to the club’s official website, Southampton could call upon both Danny Ings and Mario Lemina.
The pair have been unavailable for a significant portion of the season, with Ings having been on the sidelines for the last two months with a hamstring injury, while Lemina has not been able to feature in 2019 with an abdominal issue.
Shane Long is unavailable for the game following the injury he received in their victory over Tottenham Hotspur prior to the international break.
Being able to call upon Lemina and Ings will be great news for Hasenhuttl and Southampton, especially given the nature of the game on Saturday.
As mentioned, the fixture could be considered the true definition of a ‘six-pointer’ as the two sides continue to fight it out just above the relegation zone and a win for the Saints would take them level on points with the Seagulls.
Ings’ return will have come at a crucial time as he can be the man to find the goals needed to win the points that are still available, as others have failed to be consistent enough throughout the campaign.
Lemina’s return, however, could be even bigger and more significant than the Liverpool loanee’s, as Southampton have clearly missed the midfielder. The Gabon international is a player that can help turn defence into attack with his ability and has the killer pass that is needed at times for the forward line to latch onto.
With both men back available, Southampton’s chances of survival will have surely increased, although they must hit the ground running and the Brighton match could be the perfect opportunity for both of them to do so.
Southampton fans, how good is it to hear that Ings and Lemina are both back available? Should they both play on Saturday? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
