Southampton tie defender down to new deal

The club revealed that Jose Fonte will remain at the club until 2018 following his decision to accept the new deal.

Fonte, who joined the club in 2010, has been a key component of the team, being a part of the squad that has gone from League One to the Premier League. During his time at St Marys he has been capped seven times by his country Portugal, and has made nearly 250 appearances for the club.

Speaking to the clubs official website about his new deal, Fonte said:

“I’m obviously very pleased and very happy. I want to thank the manager, Les Reed, Ralph [Krueger], Katharina [Liebherr] – all of the staff and all of the board – for showing their trust and belief in me.”

“I am extremely happy that they are giving me this opportunity to keep being in this great club, and I hope I can give back with good performances and by helping the club move forward.”

“This is where I feel happy and where I’ve been very successful, so this is where I want to be and where I want to win.”

The Southampton fans are delighted with the news that Fonte will remain at the club, and are pleased his efforts have been rewarded with a new deal.
