According to the Daily Mirror, Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk is keen to play for his fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman at Southampton.
However the 23-year-old defender is also wanted by Premier League duo Sunderland and Swansea City who have also tracked his progress since moving from FC Groningen.
He has become a first team favourite for the Hoops this season making 36 appearances and scoring five goals.
And that kind of form means that the SPL champions have slapped a £10 million price tag on him.
However van Dijk is rumoured to be keen on a move to the south coast club and the Saints certainly won’t have any trouble matching the £10 million transfer fee.
Especially as Dejan Lovren’s move from Southampton to Liverpool could earn Koeman’s side close to £20 million – half what it would cost to replace him with van Dijk.
Southampton fans. Lovren has shown his true colours in recent weeks and it’s therefore no surprise he is off. But does van Dijk represent a good replacement? Let us know your thoughts below.
