Southampton haven’t been able to ensure consistency in the current campaign as they continue to float around near the relegation zone.
The Saints will be desperate to improve on things after failing to secure all three points away from home against Bournemouth yesterday. Although, it appears as if they’re keeping tabs on a central defender, as according to The Sunday Mirror (21/10; page 67) (via HITC), Southampton are flocking to Hamburg to watch David Bates.
It’s been reported that former Rangers defender David Bates is attracting the attention of the likes of Arsenal, Everton, Southampton, Watford and Leicester City.
Interestingly, the 22-year-old appears to have made a positive early impression by helping his current club Hamburg to fourth in the table.
Southampton could do with bringing in a central defender after witnessing a couple of their poor defensive displays this season.
David Bates has plenty of potential and it looks as if he is already showing it over in Germany this season, with a move to the Premier League being just rewards for all of his efforts.
Indeed, the Saints definitely need to bring a central defender to the club during the January transfer window to provide competition and sure things up after a rather worrying start to proceedings.
