The Liverpool Echo certainly has fans looking up here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they give us the latest on Adam Lallana.
The Southampton star has become one of the summer’s most wanted targets and both Liverpool and Manchester United are keen on him.
Not only that, but as we were discussing only last week, the player himself has begged the Saints to allow him to leave and join Liverpool – meaning that Brendan Rodgers and his men are leading the chase for him.
As our punters note over a pint, after slipping down the league table to second place it is nice to see the Reds win something – but they will have to put their hands deep into their pockets to land England international Lallana.
The midfielder has been valued at £25 million by his current club and they are determined to hold out for a figure around that – despite Liverpool making an early bid of £20 million.
We did expect most clubs to move for their targets as soon as the final whistle blew this past season given the forthcoming World Cup being on the horizon and it seems that all managers bar Arsene Wenger (shocker) are thinking along those lines.
Do you think Lallana will cost even more than £25 million if Manchester United enter the bidding for him? Let us know your thoughts below.
