There are more than a couple of shocked faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by the Daily Mail that Tottenham could be set to miss out on one of their top targets this summer.
As we all know, the North London club have been interested in Internacional’s Leandro Damiao for a long while now and have even been fans of the player before current manager Andre Villas-Boas arrived at White Hart Lane – who incidentally was a fan of the forward even before he came to England and tried to net the player during his time at Chelsea.
Now in a bizarre twist of events, Southampton are set to join the race for the player and could well be set to make an ambitious bid for the 23-year-old who is valued at around £18 million.
Quite what Spurs will think of this remains to be seen but given the fact that the player will want at least a chance at breaching the top four next season, we still think Spurs are leading the race here. Southampton are also thought to be interested in Valencia midfielder Ever Banega.
Will we be seeing Leandro Damiao strut his stuff in the Premier League this season, and where? Let us know your thoughts below.
