Southampton weighing up January move for tricky attacking midfielder

Mixed reviews from the Southampton fans in the Tavern on this one…

Claude Puel has had a difficult start to life as Southampton manager, with the Frenchman struggling to overstep the shadow left behind by Ronald Koeman.

The Saints currently sit 14th in the Premier League after 5 games, having picked up just 1 Premier League win thus far.

Nonetheless, Puel is refusing to give up on his Southampton project, and the Frenchman seemingly already has one eye on January as he looks to improve his squad for the long-haul.

According to the Mirror, Southampton could launch a move for PSG ace Hatem Ben Arfa, who is currently out of favour in the French capital.

Puel is reportedly eying a reunion with the Frenchman, for whom he managed during a spell at Nice.

PSG have seemingly frozen Hatem Ben Arfa out of the first team set up, with the Frenchman’s attitude once again being questioned in what appears to be a repeat of the problems that he had during his spell in England earlier in his career.

The Southampton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern don’t know what to make of this.

On one hand, Ben Arfa is clearly a talented player – but on the other, his off the field personality appears less than desirable; and that could have an adverse effect on the Southampton first team this season.

Our landlord is very much of the same thought process – but has noted that Puel’s relationship with Ben Arfa could be enough to salvage his career.

Only time will tell, if this deal ever does happen.
