Crystal Palace looked destined for the Championship before the arrival of former England boss Roy Hodgson, but since the experienced boss pulled into town, there has been a remarkable turnaround at Selhurst Park.
Five points clear of the drop and records improving both offensively and defensively, the Eagles are on course to extend their stay in the top flight, and fans here in The Transfer Tavern are finally beginning to relax after a torrid opening quarter of the season. Still a long way to go and not out of the woods yet however, fans are keen to see Hodgson stretch his financial muscle this month, and there exist strong fears amongst fans that the club could lose Wilfried Zaha before the window slams shut. If that happens fans want a replacement, with Nathan Redmond one of the names on their list.
The Southampton winger has struggled this season due to the poor overall form of his side, and has contributed just three assists as the Saints lie just a single point above the drop. Quality with Norwich City in both the top flight and the Championship, Redmond earned his move back to the Premier League with Southampton following the Canaries’ relegation, and has proven to be a solid winger at this level. His form saw England boss Gareth Southgate award the former England U21 regular with his first senior international cap, and the player will be keen to build on this tally in the coming years. Losing Zaha would be a blow to Palace, but with the pacy winger contributing similar stats as Redmond over the past few seasons, 23-year-old Redmond could prove to be a decent replacement.
If the £16.2m-rated (as per Transfermarkt) player can add more goals to his game his value would skyrocket, and he could certainly develop his game under Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park.
Losing Zaha would be a blow, but if Redmond were available for say a quarter of the fee they receive for the Ivory Coast international, then Palace would have to consider that good business.
