Manchester City fans are having a busy day here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Metro that the club are about to sign Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo.
It was only yesterday that we were discussing the fact that the Citizens had less than 1 per cent chance of netting the player according to Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido, yet now it seems that City and the La Liga club have reached an agreement regarding an imminent transfer.
Manuel Pellegrini has identified a forward as his top priority this summer having already sold Carlos Tevez to Juventus, not to mention the fact that the club are not exactly short of money.
After a season of failure last term which culminated in a hugely disappointing FA Cup Final defeat to Wigan Athletic, not to mention the loss of manager Roberto Mancini, Pellegrini is well aware that nothing less than perfection will be tolerated and trophies need to be won and fast.
Negredo has been identified as the forward that will give the club the best chance of doing that and City are willing to pay £22 million – with that fee set to rise.
Sevilla chief del Nido noted that: “We are about to complete the sale of Negredo to City. If all goes well he will say bye this afternoon at the Sanchez Pizjuan.
“City are signing a great player. For Sevilla and Negredo it is a major operation. It is the contract of his life.”
Are Manchester City paying over the odds for Negredo or will he be worth it? Let us know your thoughts below.
