There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by the Daily Mirror that Arsenal are no longer interested in David Villa.
The forward has long been looking to leave Barcelona and it seemed that the Emirates Stadium was one of the most likely destinations for the player, yet now in a sensational claim it seems that whilst a move may well be on the cards, it will not be to Arsene Wenger’s side.
Arsenal are no longer interested in the former Valencia player and have turned their full attentions to Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic who they are about to start negotiations with.
Villa has been marginalised by Barcelona in the past few months and despite being Spain’s all-time top goal scorer, rumours of a rift with Lionel Messi and frequent injuries have seen the forward fall down the pecking order at the club. Even with the uncertainty over Alexis Sanchez’ future, Villa is determined to leave in the summer and is willing to take a pay cut in order to force a move through – but it will not be to Arsenal.
Should have Arsenal followed up their interest in Villa or is Jovetic a better option? Let us know your thoughts below.
