Metro are certainly keeping us entertained today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is prepared to do anything to keep Cristiano Ronaldo happy.
The star man in Madrid has been once again linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent days and the imminent arrival of Gareth Bale not to mention being deployed as a number 9 in pre-season has done nothing to quell rumours both in the Spanish and English press over a move back to the club Ronaldo was happiest at.
Add to this the self confessed ‘unhappiness’ last season under now Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and you have the makings for a rather sensational story.
Carlo Ancelotti however is having none of this and noted during Los Blancos’ pre-season tour of the USA that: “Cristiano has to play in the position he wants to.
“I will not change his position because he is comfortable in his usual position. He is the one who has to choose where he plays on the pitch.”
Ancelotti’s comments further illustrate themes of player power at the Bernabeu and it remains to be seen if United can land the Portuguese forward – even with Sir Alex Ferguson gone and new manager David Moyes at the helm.
