Edin Dzeko’s name has cropped up a few times today in the Football Transfer Tavern with the Daily Star the latest to link the striker with a move away from Manchester City, this time to La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish side have money to spend after Radamel Falcao joined Monaco, last month and have earmarked the Bosnian striker as the man to lead the line for them next season.
With new City boss Manuel Pellegrini looking to impose his management style on the club and bring his own players in, as well as various reports suggesting City are in talks with Napoli over the sale of Edinson Cavani, this summer could signal the end of the former Wolfsburg’s player two-and-a-half seasons in Manchester.
Despite only starting 16 games in the Premier League last season, Dzeko still achieved a respectable 14 goals and should he leave the Etihad Stadium this transfer window he will have amassed 30 Premier League goals for City in 77 games.
The Star also suggested, that Atletico’s decision to move for Dzeko has signalled the end of their interest in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke but our landlord doubts that will be the end of the Benteke rumours this summer.
