Shock is not the word here in the Football Transfer Tavern, after the Daily Mail have noted that Real Madrid have landed Tottenham’s Gareth Bale – but he will not break the world record fee.
The Spanish side have been so keen to ensure that Cristiano Ronaldo remains the top dog at the club, that they have made sure that Bale will only cost them £78 million – and that will all be released in one payment to Spurs, not three instalments as first thought.
Of course, huge figures have been talked about when it comes to Bale and his transfer, and we in the tavern were astounded at talk of £100 million plus amounts.
Now it seems that in a move to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at the club, and make sure he does not feel pushed out by the arrival of Bale, he will remain the most expensive player in the world – by £2 million.
As we all know, Daniel Levy is a top negotiator when it comes to transfer deals and getting the very best out of clubs for players, and given Spurs have brought in a number of players this summer – and ones at the very top of their game at that, the club arguably look in a better state now than before the transfer window opened.
As one of our punters quips, that would have been unthinkable at the start of the transfer window, yet now a top four finish minus Bale is certainly more than on the cards.
Will Gareth Bale go on to become the world’s best player at Real Madrid? Let us know your thoughts below.
