Spaniards plan £25m raid on Manchester United

rooney.jpgBoth Manchester United and Real Madrid fans are looking intrigued in the Football Transfer Tavern at the claim today from The Mirror who think that Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney could well be on the radar of Real Madrid and their president Florentino Perez who would be willing to splash £25 million on the former Everton hitman.

Rooney’s future has been up in the air for some time now and ironically enough it was his omission from the starting line up against Real Madrid that sparked questions over the player’s future.

Given that David Moyes is now set to take over at Old Trafford and the fact that Rooney and Moyes have been at loggerheads in the past, speculation regarding a departure has only increased.

This is however silly season and everyday there is a new link claiming the forward will be moving somewhere, or staying and ending his career at Old Trafford.

Real Madrid are in the market for a forward especially given the almost inevitable departure of Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus and are now thought to be pondering a switch for the England international. It is set to be a summer of change at Real with Carlo Ancelotti set to take over and the manager is a known fan of Rooney.

Despite this latest link, David Moyes has claimed that he will do everything possible to keep Rooney at the club and feel that the forward has a long future with the Red Devils.

One thing that is not being considered by Real is a swap deal involving Rooney and a substantial amount of cash for Cristiano Ronaldo who of course has been linked with a return to Manchester United. Ronaldo is staying with the club as far as Perez is concerned and a swap is not negotiable.

Will Rooney’s eyes light up at the prospect of playing in La Liga? Rate this rumour below.
