There is more news for Liverpool fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern, although this time it is not so positive. Sources at talkSPORT reckon the Reds are going to be pipped to the signing of highly rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder Diego Capel by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
The Reds have been the busiest of all the Premier League clubs during the transfer window so far, confirming the signings of Kolo Toure from Manchester City, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from Sunderland, and Spanish attackers Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas from Sevilla and Celta Vigo respectively.
It looks as though Brendan Rodgers is going to miss out on making Capel his fifth signing of the summer however, after the midfielder revealed he is flattered by the interest of Atletico, and would be very open to a move back to Spain.
The former Sevilla wide man told AS: “I am very proud to be linked with big clubs like Atletico.
“One always wants to keep progressing and that is a great club.
“I do not know what will happen in the future but any player would like to play there.”
Atletico are said to have already launched a bid for the 25-year-old Sporting star, although this was denied earlier in the month by club president Enrique Cerezo.
