The Daily Mail have made a claim that has Chelsea fans looking slightly worried as they drink their pints here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication claim that despite the Blues putting a massive £45 million price tag on the defender – something we were all talking about for most of yesterday here in the tavern over some crisps and a pint – that has not put the Catalan giants off.
Luiz has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, as it was thought the defender simply was not a ‘Mourinho type player’ yet now it seems that Chelsea are keen on keeping the Brazilian, or as one of our punters quips, determined to squeeze out every last bit of cash from Barcelona and Gerardo Martino.
Barca have been dealt a blow in recent days after seeing their marquee summer signing Neymar diagnosed with anaemia and are pushing on with their transfer plans. The club have known for some time now that Carles Puyol is coming to the end of his career and see the similarly floppy haired Luiz as the perfect person to replace him and link up with former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique.
Mourinho could well decide to keep Luiz and turn him into one of the best defenders in Europe and as someone notes, Ricardo Carvalho became an ever present under Jose Mourinho and bares more than a few similarities to Luiz, especially in their love of going forward.
Will Mourinho keep Luiz in London this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
