It’s the news that Tottenham supporters gathered in the Football Transfer Tavern have been eagerly anticipating as Darren Lewis from Mirror Football reports that Barcelona striker David Villa could be a Tottenham player as early as this week.
Lewis explains to punters that the Spanish international forward has come to an agreement over personal terms with the White Hart Lane outfit and it is now up to the two clubs to sort out an acceptable fee.
The La Liga champions are currently demanding £8.6 million but Spurs are looking to pay less for the 31-year-old who has suffered with injuries in the last few seasons.
Barca want to rid themselves of Villa’s £110,000-a-week wages and the ever prudent Daniel Levy believes he can use this to drive down the asking price for the former Valencia man.
Villa’s current contract at the Camp Nou expires next summer and this could see Barcelona selling their striker to the Premier League side before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to add striking reinforcements as he attempts to bring Champions League football back to the Lane and capturing the still supremely talented World and European cup winner will be an astute acquisition.
