Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in recent days after seeing their side thump West Ham 4-1 at the London Stadium on Saturday, thus securing a third victory in the space of seven days.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the struggling Hammers off the back of beating Huddersfield Town and Maribor, and first half goals from Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip set them on course for another three points. And although Manuel Lanzini got one back for the East London outfit ten minutes into the second period, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain restored the Reds’ lead almost immediately before Salah bagged his second and Liverpool’s fourth with 15 minutes of the game left.
Thus, several of our resident Liverpudlians have been making a lot of noise in the Tavern this week, although they are likely to be stopped in their tracks if a recent report from El Gol Digital is anything to go by.
And that’s because they report that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are eyeing up a sensational move for Liverpool’s Salah in the New Year.
The Egypt international made the move to Anfield over the summer and has been brilliant for Klopp’s side so far, having scored 12 goals in just 17 appearances for the Merseysiders, seven of which have come in the Premier League.
And with four goals in four Champions League group matches, the forward is certainly repaying the £36.9 million the Reds spent on him during the close season, and it’s impressive form which has reportedly attracted the interest of Atletico and manager Diego Simeone.
The Spanish outfit are fourth in La Liga and already eight points adrift of leaders Barcelona, and they are also struggling in their Champions League group having won none of their three games thus far, so it’s clear that reinforcements are needed during the winter window, but whether they can lure the Reds goal machine to the Wanda Metropolitano remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Mohamed Salah made a big money move to Liverpool during the summer for his second crack at English football, having struggled previously at Chelsea between 2014 and 2016.
But the 25-year-old has certainly showcased his talents with 12 goals in just 17 games for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and it’s form which Atletico Madrid are interested in as they seek to kickstart their season.
Fourth in La Liga and in real danger of failing to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, manager Diego Simeone knows that things must improve at the Spanish outfit, but after just signing for Liverpool in the summer, it’s surely going to be very difficult convincing Salah to make the move to Spain in January.
