Wherever Emmanuel Adebayor finds himself in February, we can be fairly certain of two things: first, it won’t be at Manchester City, and second, he’ll only be leaving on loan, as nobody is prepared to pay any money to get him.
His wage demands having scuppered interest from other suitors, Real Madrid are still believed to be in the hunt for Adebayor as temporary cover for Gonzalo Higuain.
So, not only has Roberto Mancini beaten Jose Mourinho to the capture of Edin Dzeko, he may yet be able to rub the Portuguese tactician’s nose in it still further, by dumping the disruptive Togolese striker on him for the remainder of the season.
Yet it seems Real may even miss out on this signing, too, after Canal Sur Radio reported that Malaga are now the most likely to secure a loan deal.
And the manager set to pip Real to this deal? Why, it’s none other than cast-off ex-Madrid manager, Manuel Pellegrini.
The media in Spain are calling his pursuit of Adebayor the icing on the cake of his ambitious re-building project at the club. He might just as well be doing it to annoy his former employers; but either way, City fans, it looks like Ade’s finally on his way…if only temporarily.
