Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are relieved to hear via talkSPORT that Louis van Gaal has offered former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes an 18-month contract.
This is the most concrete update yet after it was revealed that the 32-year-old was training with United to rehabilitate his serious knee injury back in October.
Reports in Spain suggest that the former Barcelona man is considering his options before making his final decision with the Spaniard on the verge of making a full recovery.
What is also fuelling speculation is that United’s current back-up keepers Ben Amos and Anders Lindegaard are considering moves away from Old Trafford which may hint that Valdes is indeed about to sign.
van Gaal has a very good relationship with the Spaniard after he handed him his debut and he will hope that this and the fact he offered him his club’s training ground to successfully rehabilitate will be enough to land his signature.
If they can sign Valdes, it will give van Gaal one of the strongest goalkeeping pairings in the league alongside David de Gea of course, competing with Chelsea’s formidable duo of Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech.
Manchester United fans. Do you think that Louis van Gaal will be able to keep Victor Valdes happy at the club despite the fact he will be the second choice? Let us know your thoughts below.
