Spanish striker to fill Spurs’ striking void?

negredo.jpgTottenham Hotspur fans here at the Football Transfer Tavern were more than a little concerned when they found out about Jermain Defoe’s injury and now the Daily Mail claim the club may be looking at bringing in another striker.

There was of course the will he, won’t he saga with Emmanuel Adebayor and the African Cup of Nations and the forward eventually left, leaving Spurs feeling slightly depleted up top. Add to this the concerns over Defoe’s fitness and the club are looking at Alvaro Negredo.

The Spanish international is currently plying his trade in Spain for Sevilla and has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs in the last couple of seasons. The player has earned 12 caps for the Spanish national side and would be available for around £15 million. Of course at the age of 27 it means that a move to the Premier League is becoming a bit of a now or never situation for the player and may be persuaded to embark on his first transfer outside of his native Spain.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side have just signed Lewis Holtby from Schalke and have also been linked with Celtic’s Gary Hooper in a recent report by Metro.

Is Negredo the man to reinforce Spurs’ strikeforce? Rate this rumour below.
