Oh tensions are high here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has stoked a fire that doesn’t really need stoking, with his recent comments regarding Tottenham Hotspur.
It was at the Gunners’ recent AGM and I had to explain to several punters this stood for ‘Annual General Meeting’ and not ‘Arsene’s Game Machine’!
Ivan enraged Spurs fans by mocking their stature in comparison to Arsenal and, to rub salt in the wounds, reminded their North London rivals that they no longer had Wales international Gareth Bale.
As if Spurs fans needed reminding that while they lost one Welsh wonder, Arsenal in fact have a reborn one in Aaron Ramsey, who scored yet again in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Norwich City.
All this becomes too much for our Lilywhite regulars and, rather surprisingly, without so much as a coarse word, they see off the dregs of their pints and trudge towards the exit door while our natives of the red and white persuasion sing: “Say we are top da league”
Have a look at what Gazidis said, I have pinned up over there, by the quiz machine, see it?
