So, there we go, Arsenal won’t be appearing in the Champions League on the Football Transfer Tavern’s television screens for another season at least.
We had a full bar last night, with the punters expecting a wonderful spectacle as Arsene Wenger’s men looked to repeat history in the Allianz Arena.
One punter was so certain that his beloved Gunners would overcome Bayern Munich that he bet me his wife – yes, his wife – that the side from North London would be in the pot for the quarter-finals.
He was thankful that I refused to take up the bet because of my duty to remain impartial as an employee of the tavern (and, in all honesty, his other half isn’t exactly a ‘trophy wife’)
Sadly, for the customers – and also my landlord’s takings – the game wasn’t even a contest, a drab affair that saw most people leave at half-time to catch up on their series linked Emmerdale marathon.
To help make the second half more enjoyable, the punters and I decided to make a game out of Arjen Robben’s theatrics.
I think we can hear from the judges now? Oh yes, wow! What a score for the Dutchman.
