I like to think the Football Transfer Tavern is an appealing place for the younger, trendier and cooler generation of society.
In reality it probably isn’t but we do get – especially when we are screening the football – a few younger people in (and yes, I always ask for ID).
Chatting to our more youthful punters is always interesting, insightful and slightly nostalgic, with me thinking: “I used to dress like that.”
I’ll be the first to admit I’m not ‘down wid da kidz’ but I’m always trying (and failing) to be the cool landlord.
The other day I caught a regular, who’s an Arsenal fan, taking photo’s of himself with a few of our more attractive female punters, without them knowing.
When I pulled him up on it, his response was: “Oh no it’s fine, I’m just doing a Giroud.”
Obviously I didn’t have a clue what he meant but acted like I did and sent him on his merry way.
Later, when the tavern was closed, I goggled ‘doing an Olivier Giroud’; I was expecting to see some lovely ‘gifs’ of his flicks in the build-up to that Jack Wilshere goal against Norwich City.
Instead, this is what came up – I wonder if he will be doing another one after the Manchester United result?
