Last weekend saw one of the more bizarre moments of the Premier League season, when Andre Marriner mistakenly sent off Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs for handball, when in fact it was that little rascal Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The red card didn’t seem to have too much of an impact on the result, with Arsenal already trailing 2-0 to Chelsea and facing a penalty – but it still bought about a lot of controversy since the Ox owned up to the fact it was him, yet Marriner couldn’t change his mind.
After a week of misery for the Gunners, the incident has at least bought about a bit of positive news.
It has inspired a charity single from mistaken identity victim Kieran Gibbs, who with the help of Marriner and the Ox, has produced a cover of the 2000 classic ‘It wasn’t me’ by Shaggy.
All proceeds from the single are set to go towards video evidence being introduced in Premier League football, so get downloading!
