It isn’t often that the Football Transfer Tavern closes for business. I can recall only two occasions – prior to this week – that the landlord has taken the hit and closed.
The first time, I wasn’t working at the tavern – let alone born – but it was for landlord’s stag do. He paid for everyone – and I mean everyone – punters, staff and their families all to go Las Vegas with him. Apparently it was a mad one.
The second time was when Portsmouth went into administration. My landlord is a Pompey fan and he was – and still is – inconsolable over their demise. So much so, he refused to let anyone into the tavern on that dark day for the club.
The third time was actually this week; we had to close because no one could get into work due to a huge dust storm. For some reason, a lot of people are blaming Arsenal.
