They say you should never work with children, and Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta discovered this first hand on Wednesday night.
As the players prepared to step into one of the most hostile atmospheres in Europe to take on Napoli for a place in the Champions League last 16, Arteta was preparing for the usual routine of being presented with the game mascot.
But on this occasion, the mascot seemed genuinely gutted to be paired with Arteta – if the floods of tears were anything to go by.
Arteta – ever the professional – has clearly learnt from his manager, and simply pretended not to see it.
Maybe the mascot was hoping Thomas Vermaelen, or Per Mertesacker would be wearing the captain’s armband for this one?
