Blimey! I had only popped into the Football Transfer Tavern to grab my pay slip but I ended up staying there for a fair few hours…on my day off!
Basically, when I arrived, there was a load of vans blocking the entrance into the car park – I thought it was the latest memorabilia delivery, as my landlord loves hanging his signed shirts around the bar (we’ve got a lovely Napoli one signed by Diego Maradona that I’ve got my eye on).
Anyway, come find out, it was actually Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs who had rocked up! They started firing around all sorts of accusations about how my landlord hadn’t paid his tax!
Now, I know my landlord isn’t a saint, but, when it comes to doing things by the book, he does it the right way.
Eventually, I managed to dig out the paperwork they said they never received – I found it under a mound of Brazil 2014 World Cup sticker books!
As the HMRC employees were leaving, I could’ve sworn one of the blokes was Chelsea’s superstar Eden Hazard! It wasn’t him, though, right?
