Saturday’s football action saw another dramatic moment in the Fernando Torres soap opera.
The Spaniard turned in arguably his best display in a Chelsea shirt since that £50 million transfer from Liverpool back in January 2011.
He proved a constant menace for the Tottenham defence, and looked to have found that old burst of electric pace.
All was looking good, until a moment of madness from the Spaniard that seems to have landed him in hot water with the FA.
Although Torres was not sent off for this moment in particular (the red card came later…obviously) he is set to face a four game ban once the referee’s report reveals he did in fact miss the attempt to gauge out Jan Vertonghen’s eye.
The news will come as a massive blow to Chelsea, but most importantly to Torres himself.
Just as he was beginning to look the player Chelsea thought they had signed, he is going to have to miss a month of action for a moment of madness that has let himself, the clubs’ fans and the manager down.
Well, we say manager. Perhaps it was Mourinho who inspired the incident himself? We all remember his previous poking antics in Spain don’t we? Like manager, like player…
