What a season it has been! The Football Transfer Tavern punters cannot believe what they’ve witnessed at both ends of the Premier League table.
After Steven Gerrard’s costly slip for Liverpool, last week, one punter quipped: “It’s like no one wants to win the flamin’ thing!”
He’s right, though and after last night’s game between Brendan Rodgers’ side and Crystal Palace, it certainly looks like Liverpool don’t want to have their name engraved on the prestigious trophy.
When Damien Delaney buried Palace’s first goal, one Liverpool supporting regular said to me: “You wait, they’ll get something out of this game, now. Bloody typical of our season.”
Well, wasn’t he right! Nine minutes later, the Manchester City customers were celebrating and Liverpool fans were sitting in a stunned silence – well, apart from one customer who was blubbering like an absolute baby.
Eventually – because he was making such a racket – I had to ask one of his mates to take him outside and calm him down.
A few minutes later, they both returned and the distraught regular was absolutely fine.
I wonder what his mate said to him…
