One of the most unsurprising stories to reach the Football Transfer Tavern this week was that Newcastle United ‘director of football’ Joe Kinnear left his post.
The former Wimbledon boss was the only handed the role in the summer, and he wasn’t too good at it!
Kinnear managed to sign two players during his time at Newcastle – although neither on a permanent deal, with Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong joining the Magpies on loan until the end of the season.
Kinnear also oversaw the sale of perhaps the clubs best player, allowing Yohan Cabaye to join Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £20 million.
But the final straw for Newcastle fans came when Kinnear failed to sign a replacement.
The decision to relieve him of his duties looks to be the correct one, especially following a leaked picture of his to-do list appearing in the Football Transfer Tavern.
Looked like you made the right decision eventually Mike Ashley!
